Imma kick Art Loeb’s ass…
Because he kicked mine this weekend (2/26/2005 and 2/27/2005).
Partook of a Man Hike this weekend with some friends from Asheville.
On Friday night we car camped near the Pisgah Fishery. Weather was a cool clear 24 degrees.
On Saturday we did about 2/3 of the Art Loeb Trail Section 1. This trail followed the Mountain to the Sea Trail from the Pisgah District Ranger Station on Hwy 276. It continued (seemingly vertical) to the Cat Gap loop. We went between 6-8 miles on the first day. Once I get the elevation of the Pisgah Ranger Station, (828)877-3265 we can figure out our vertical on the first day.
Saturday night We camped at Cat Gap (elevation 3,350ft) in a clearing about 200 feet down from the ridge. Cold, but not as cold as Friday.
On Sunday morning we broke camp and continued back to the Fishery Parking Lot (2.3 miles). Luckily this was mostly downhill.
Aside from being winded on day 1 of hiking I did pretty well. It was bitch-ass cold but I know we got a very different perspective than hiking in the summer. The leaves were off the trees and most of the hiking was along a ridge so at most any point on the trail there were beautiful views to both sides.
Got some pics here…
